CHORAL SCHOLARS DESCRIPTION 

The Choral Arts Society of Washington seeks Tenors 1s and Bass 2s for their new Choral Scholars program during two concert cycles in 2025. This program is a paid internship ideally for college/university students studying to become music educators/ensemble directors or young vocal professionals seeking to gain more experience in the choral field. 

Choral Scholars will act as vocal leaders within the ensemble and will ideally participate and engage in the ensemble community. Scholars will receive feedback from the Artistic Director, as well as additional mentorship throughout the season.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Attend all Choral Arts rehearsals and performances list below. 

Weekly rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7:30-10 PM in Satterlee Hall at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 3001 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016
Choral Scholars will also be required to attend Review Choir starting at 7:15 PM 

The Creation, Haydn 

  • Every Tuesday rehearsal from 2/4/25 – 3/18/25 
  • Dress Rehearsal: 3/25/25, 7 PM-10 PM at the Kennedy Center 
  • Concert: 3/30/25, 7 PM at the Kennedy Center (Call Time TBD) 

60th Anniversary Concert 

  • Every Tuesday rehearsal from 4/22/25 – 6/10/25 
  • Dress Rehearsals: 6/9/25, 7 PM at the Kennedy Center and 6/14/25, time TBD at the Kennedy Center 
  • Concert: 6/15/25, 5 PM at the Kennedy Center (Call Time TBD)

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine commitment to fostering a positive and familial community 
  • Strong and pleasing voice  
  • High level of musicianship and skill  
  • Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically
    to other chorus members with a team-oriented mindset 
  • Dependable leadership skills 

Preparedness 

Choral Scholars are expected to be prepared with their repertoire for each rehearsal and are expected to be a musical model within their sections. Scholars will also be required to attend Review Choir every week and sing with the singers who are called. They will interact with the singers and be a part of the community along with the other members of the ensemble.
 

Meeting and Communication 

Meet as needed with the Artistic Director and/or Assistant Conductor. 

Prompt and professional communication.
 

HONORARIUM  

$2500 paid (in four installments)
This is based on $100 per call for 20 rehearsals, $250 per call for 2 performances.
